One week visiting Rasdhoo Atoll where I enjoyed snorkeling, celebrations for Eid-al Adha (Festival of Sacrifice), watching a Women's Handball Tournament, and experiencing the local culture. On Kaafu Atoll, I wandered the captital city of Male and had a brief layover in Hulhumale.
Republic of the Maldives is Asia’s smallest country with 26 atolls and about 1,200 coral islands. Male is its capital city and people are primarily conservative Muslims. The Maldives’ vast area in the Indian Ocean—90,000 square kilometers or 35,000 square miles—was devastated during the region’s December 2004 tsunami.
